Crimson,
the embers glow,
the sort of heat that starts
in your chest is muted, but strong.

As soon as it begins to rain,
a campfire has no chance, yet
an internal fire
is harder to extinguish,

Flames in the heart are resilient
oblivious to any weather, they are
unabated.

Somewhere out west,
a forest fire is consuming a hillside while
here, on the wrong side of town,
someone else is setting his resentment ablaze

You are in your bed,
burning silently, yet
I can see your pilot light,
even from here.
