AElfgifu was a fairly common Saxon name before the Danish conquest of England. For example, AElthelred's first wife was named AElfgifu (his second wife, Emma, was Norman; she married Knut after the conquest).
One of my hobbies is finding archaic names and trying to bring them back into use (without inflicting them on real people).
