Mythos : Etruscan Mythology
Aita is the Etruscan god of the underworld. He is, for all practical purposes, identical to his Greek and Roman counterparts Hades and Pluto, the latter of whom inherited his role as ruler over the dead in the Roman pantheon. In archaeological
findings at Tarquinia he's depicted wearing a wolfskin cap and surrounded by chthonian demons and monsters, though this image may have
been influenced by Greek art of the times rather than being purely Etruscan. He has a wife whose name is unknown and may be related to the Greek
Persephone, and his symbol is the amphisbæna. As god of the underworld he is also the lord of buried treasures.
