Named after Prince Albert, the consort of Queen Victoria, Albert Park is a suburb and large parklands approx 3km South of Melbourne City.

There are many smaller ovals and sections built in the parklands, including an Aquatic centre, a sailing club, a golf course and football, soccer, hockey and cricket grounds.

Albert Park Lake is a long, thin lake which lies in the centre of the park which is home to a few species of birds and fish and often has many small sailing boats on it. The lake is almost 5km in circumference and the surrounding track is a popular running or walking course.

Recently the park has been used as the Australian Formula 1 track, a decision which angered many of the local residents. See http://www.save-albert-park.org.au for more info on their complaints.
