Amborella, Monotypic Genus of New Caledonian Plants in the Family Amborellaceae. Amborella trichopoda is thought to be the most primitive living Angiosperm or flowering plant based on molecular phylogenetic studies. The species has very simple floral structure probably similar to the basal Angeophytes the ancestors of the flowering plants that dominate most modern ecosystems and comprise 230000 of the 300000 living land plant species.
