A sonnet cycle published by Edmund Spenser, Amoretti used the Spenserian form of the sonnet, an arrangement of Spenser's own invention. Amoretti means "little cupids" or "little love poems." Amoretti was unique in the English Renaissance, as it was the only sonnet cycle addressed to the poet's wife, Elizabeth Boyle.
