Philosophy proposed by groups of
Progressives after
September 11, 2001. The philosophy behind it was that one should not accept the
status quo, particularly regarding issues related to
social justice.
AWIP was originally designed to function as a gathering place for alternative discussions of September 11 that were not being covered in the mainstream media. This included the role of foreign policy in instigating the attacks, altenative military responses and American-sanctioned terrorism. The discussions took place in community gathering places across the nation.
Soon, its vision expanded to become a sort of conjunction of ideas as diverse as anti-globalization, civil liberties and human rights. It quickly became the mantra of the modern day protester and can be seen at venues as diverse as anti-war rallies and protests outside economic forums.
