Bao Ninh is the former Vietnamese soldier who wrote a terribly sad and personal novel about the Vietnam War called The Sorrow of War.

He was born in Hanoi in 1952. During the war he served with the 27th Glorious Youth Brigade. Of the five hundred who went to war with that brigade in 1969, he is one of only ten who survived to see the war end.
