Bdellovibrio is an interesting wee beastie indeed. It is a gram negative, vibrio bacteria which moves by flagella like many bacteria. However the comparisons stop there.
This microorganism is super fast and actually attaches itself to other bacteria such as the hapless, slow moving Escherichia coli. In other words it is a bacterial parasite. Researchers are attempting to use Bdellovibrio as a weapon against foodborne bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella. Even though harmful to other bacteria, this genus is safe for humans.
