A Bear hugging a tree is the symbol for Warwickshire. Actually, I suspect the bear is chained to the tree. The vignette is more formally known as The Bear and Ragged Staff. It appears on many Pub Signs, is the name of many pubs, and is also the name of the newsletter for the Warwickshire cell of CAMRA.

Allegedly, the origin of the ragged staff is that Guy of Warwick killed a dragon with a stripped conifer. I don't know where the bear comes into it...
