A high school in Arkansas. An incident occured at the high school in 1957 when black students were relocated to white high schools in an effort to intergrate schools. Governor Faubus of Arkansas used the Arkansas National Guardto block nine black students from entering the high school. Faubus withdrew troops after speaking to President Eisenhower, but a mob still prevented the blacks from entering. Eisenhower sent the U.S. Army to intervene, and with 82nd Airborne enforcement, the blacks attended the school. Faubus later apologized in the mid-1980s for his shameful actions in 1957.
