A young child who has one or more skills that would normally only be possessed by highly trained adult. For example, musical prodigies are a dime a dozen these days. Most prodgies turn out to be fairly ordinary adults, but some go on to great achievements. Many adults of high accomplishment were not child prodigies. See also: gifted, Mozart, Jodie Foster.
