C.A.W. (Combined Arms Warfare)
Cooperation between branches of an army(e.g.
Infantry,
Artillery,
Armor,
Calvary), combining their actions to maximize the effect of their various properties.
Concept and practice of combined arms is divided into 2 methods:
1. Supplementary, or reinforcing combined arms
2. Complementary combined arms
Supplementary CAW involves increasing the effect of one weapon system or arms with other weapons and arms having similiar effect. E.g. Using
mortars and
artillery in an integrated fire plan.
Complementary CAW combines arms having different effects, thereby posing a
dilemma for the enemy. E.g. Have artillery zero'ed on an open minefield; the enemy must either accept losses from artillery while crossing the minefield or find another route.
