Established in
1915, the Croix de Guerre is a
French medal awarded during
World War I for
bravery. This medal could also be supplimented with a palm leaf for
Army citations, a gold star for Corps citations, a silver star for Division citations or a bronze star for Brigade and Regimental citations.
Among those awarded the medal are René Fonck, Frédéric Joliot-Curie, Eddie Rickenbacker, and Wendell Neville.
