This family of
freshwater fish contains about 1500 species found throughout the world. They are generally small, hardy
schooling fish. Most are
omnivorous. Cyprinids have no
teeth in their mouths, but they do have
pharyngeal teeth.
Barbs, named for their barbels around the mouth, are Cyprinids, as are Danios, Chinese Algae-eaters, and White Cloud Mountain Minnows.
