OS/390-based system on which
Virginia Tech students maintained their course schedules from the late 1980s until
summer 2000. Despite being a bit
creaky and difficult to
learn at first, people generally accepted it, and there was muted
bitching when it was replaced.
Most of that bitching, though, was related to the disappearance of the "drop-only-if-add" feature from the new web-based scheduling app; nowadays, if you want to switch sections of a heavily-requested course, you have to go through a specific sequence of actions:
- drop your currently-scheduled section
- pray that somebody doesn't take both the section seat you want and the seat you had
- add the section you want, try to get back your old one if the section you wanted filled up, or panic if both are taken
