American marine corporal (since promoted to sergeant) who was momentarily famous in 2003 for his photogenic role in the American conquest of Iraq. Cpl. Edward Chin was the soldier who placed a chain in the form of a noose around a 12 metre bronze statue of Saddam Hussein in Firdos Square in Baghdad, which was then toppled over to the delight of the Iraqi spectators. Earlier he placed an American flag over Saddam's head to the consternation of the crowd, before being ordered to use a pre-1991 Iraqi flag instead.
