It's always about a chick or a dude who’s in PR or TV or who works for a magazine; the love-interest is a lawyer or their boss. To sound hip, computers and e-mail are mentioned; and magazine editors, BBC TV presenters, the Groucho Club and flavor-of-the-month Brit comedians are namedropped. Written by Brit media saddoes and praised by those who think working in the media in London is so cool (wow), the books are irrelevant to everyone else and are fast outdated and forgotten. But that doesn’t stop those tosspots from churning 'em out.

"Bridget Jones's Diary" is one of these, and so is Julie Burchill's "Ambition" and Robert Llewellyn's "The Man on Platform 5". Avoid.
