The "Loi Evin," passed in France in 1992, prohibits television advertising of beers with an alcohol content greater than 1.2%. This causes lots of problems with international football (or soccer, whichever you prefer) games - for example, if a beer company were sponsoring a team and the team had logos on their jerseys, any shots including those jerseys would have to be removed before the game could be shown.

I ran across it while reading an amusing article in Le Monde entitled "'Whazzzaaa ?,' mode d'interpellation international" -- all about the spread of the phrase/word "whazzzzaaa" despite the fact that the Budweiser commercials couldn't be shown on television in France.
