The "Loi Evin," passed in
France in 1992, prohibits television advertising of
beers with an
alcohol content greater than 1.2%. This causes lots of
problems with international
football (or soccer, whichever you prefer) games
- for example, if a beer company were sponsoring a team and the team had logos
on their
jerseys, any shots including those jerseys would have to be removed
before the game could be shown.
I ran across it while reading an amusing article in Le Monde entitled
"'Whazzzaaa ?,' mode d'interpellation international" -- all about the spread of
the phrase/word "whazzzzaaa" despite the fact that the Budweiser commercials
couldn't be shown on television in France. The url is
