One of the all-time great
tailbacks in
NFL history, Gale Sayers, known as the Kansas Comet, is the career leader in kickoff return average with 30.56 yards per return. He is tied for most carerr kickoffs returned for
touchdowns with 6, holds the rookie record for touchdowns with 22, and is tied for most touchdowns in a game with 6. He is one of only 4 running backs in NFL history who has averaged at least 5 yards per carry over a career.
He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1965 and immediatly set the league on fire. He played for 7 seasons, his career tragically cut short by a knee injury. My dad says he is the most exciting runner he ever saw. He was portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the movie Brian's Song.
