An
improper fraction is a
fraction that has a
numerator that as large as or larger than the
denominator.
2/2 is an improper fraction because it could be simplified into 1.
3/2 is an improper fraction because it could be simplified into 1 and 1/2.
It used to be that improper fractions should be simplified into whole or mixed numbers but now people realise how stupid that is because in Algebra it looks like you should multiply a mixed number.
