John Stone is professor of medicine (cardiology) and director of the Emergency Medicine Residency at Grady Memorial Hospitol/Emory University School of Medicine. His published poetry includes the books The Smell of Matches and In All This Rain.

At the time of Rain's publication, Stone lived in Atlanta, GA, saw patients, and taught medicine. The Smell Of Matches was published in 1972, In All This Rain in 1980. He was born in 1936.

Due to the small amount of information readily available about him, I have no idea if he is still alive and/or writing, but his simple, direct and highly personal style has made him one of my favorite poets.
