I'm thinking of this episode of Pete and Pete I saw as a child, where there's a payphone that just rings and rings and rings for years. I think specifically of a long pan out shot of a dry desert in the middle of nowhere, so that even through an old CRT TV, you can smell the baked asphalt and chalk, and the ringing sound is warping the sun baked plastic circle of the speaker so that it's almost, but not quite, blowing out at the highest, sharpest, loudest part of each ring, and of no number listed on the inside of the booth, nobody even knew it was connected, who the fuck uses a payphone anymore? And my lipsticked mouth pressed to a receiver somewhere.
