Laihia is a small town in west Finland, near Vaasa. Population ~7400, area 508 km².

People there are usually thought of being cheapskates and take pride being that, too, to the extent that the town's official web page (http://www.laihia.fi/) lists jokes about "stretching the pennies".

"Who invented puzzles? A Laihian who dropped a 20 mk banknote into a blender."
