Leonard Adleman designed an algorithm to solve Hamiltonian Path Problems using DNA. By creating this algorithm, he single-handedly spawned an entirely new field of science, called DNA computing (a subset of molecular computing). In the field of cryptology he contributed to the creation of public key cryptography, which solved the problem of key distribution. This cryptographical technique is called RSA, which stands for the last names of the creators, Ronald Rivest, Adi Shamir and Leonard Adleman. Rivest originally suggested it be titled ARS, in alphabetical order, but Adleman's modest nature wouldn't allow it.
