Yet another umbrella term to describe notHeterosexual.
Encountered frequently in colleges still uncomfortable with the postmodern /
poststructuralist freedom of expression, though more significantly used in
queer theory as a word describing the same, but with more confidence and less reticence.
The term was most recently examined by Queer Materialism in an anthology titled
The Material Queer, which examined queer sexual identity as a result
and agent of late capitalism. The result was to break "lesbigay" from both the classical tradition
in queer theory and the postmodern leniency of interpretation, throwing the word into question
from a dialectical materialist point of view.
