Founded in
1880, in honour of
Britain's
Princess Louise who visited
Canada in
1878, Louiseville is the cultural centre of the
Maskinongé region, in the province of
Québec. With a population of
8000, it is a mix between the
city and the
countryside. It is
63 square
kilometres in area and has a
hospital, a
mall, an
industrial park, an
aeroport, a
public sports complex, a
community centre, a
library, and various
government buildings.
One of the highlights of the town is the large marble church, which is considered unique in Canada because of the richness of its interior decoration.
Each Autumn, there is an event called the "Festival de la Galette de Sarrasin" which encourages the consumption of buckwheat products.
