Founded in
1931, the
village of Maskinongé is just under
2 square
kilometres in area, with a
population of
1068 persons. The village is located on the plain of
St.-Laurent, in
Canada's province of
Québec.
The people of Maskinongé go by the name Maskinongeois(e), and fully half of all jobs held are in wood processing.
There are two elementary schools, but no secondary or post-secondary institutions. There is a softball team in the Summer that goes by the name "les Tigres de Maskinongé".
The name itself is the Algonquin word for "pike", the fish.
