Founded in the early 1940s by Bill May and his brother
Reg, Maton is Australia's longest running and most
successful guitar manufacturer. Maton pioneered the use of
many Australian wood species in guitar construction. Bill
May is regarded by Australian luthiers as the "founding
father" of their industry.
The name Maton is derived from MAy and TONe.
