MedQuist, a subsidiary of Philips Electronics is one of the nation's leading providers of medical transcription services. It started out as a small regional transcription company in the northeast US, but through mergers and acquisitions of other transcription companies they have expanded throughout the country and into Canada and England.
A typical MedQuist office, to the extent that there is such a thing, consists of anywhere from 10-20 support personnel (processors, proofreaders, and systems people), who provide services to anywhere up to a couple of hundred transcriptionists. This is typically enough production capacity to transcribe around 80,000 lines (1600 pages) of medical records a day.
