Some things are hard to wait for,
famously, a kettle to boil,
but also coals to turn white
and thus be ready to cook with.
Matters concerning sufficient heat
(or the generation of it)
require patience. Go too soon
and the result will disappoint you.
As it will others if you are
amongst more than yourself
or long to be or hope to be
with all your heart.
Tea will not brew well,
will not reach the darkest color
or the depth of flavor
a heartless spoon would recognize.
Food, steak and ribs,
ground cheap cow, punched in circles,
will see blood drip
but not in the way you imagine.
Illness will wait, as will remorse,
the flesh will not seal or sear,
but forever remain undone,
like love.
