South city midnight lady

I'm much obliged,  indeed

You sure have saved this man whose soul was in need

A rarely used expression of thanks;   gratitude.   When you hear it now, perhaps in an old movie or in an outdated rock song, it feels odd.

I has become an antiquated expression.

Maybe you have an Uncle who says this- maybe you have heard actors use the phrase in a play.  What you don't hear is regular people using it in regular conversation.

Which is too bad.    Because this phrase is not just  "thanks"   It is a much more polite,  thoughtful expression of appreciation.    It implies that the speaker is now in your debt-  so perhaps it has been replaced with  "I owe you one"

Perhaps.                         If so,  that's a pity
