Neophobia is the fear of new things. It could apply to anything from a distaste for going through puberty to an absurd resistance to the tiniest changes to hating all music that was recorded past a certain date. Someone who's gotten used to how things are may become neophobic, which could be why people vote differently when they get older. Neophobia can be caused by the desire to preserve tradition, but also by false nostalgia.

In other words, the older you get, the harder it is to change, the more set you are in your ways, and the more you fight to keep things that way.
