Oracle cards are like tarot cards but much simpler. While tarot has established rules that apply to all decks once learned, oracle cards are more flexible and free-form. There are no set rules for reading oracle cards. Though most decks come with basic guidance, readers have complete freedom in how many cards they draw and how they interpret them. Like tarot, they are primarily used for divination.

With no set rules, each oracle deck is unique. Themes range from angels and fairies to aboriginal lore, animals, plants, vampires, shadows, and lunar cycles. Like tarot decks, they typically feature beautiful, colorful artwork. Most oracle decks contain between 45 and 64 cards, each numbered, alphabetized, or both for easy reference to the guidebook.
The guidebook includes an entry for each card with its divinatory meaning, often accompanied by a story or moral lesson for additional guidance.

Many tarot readers include one or more oracle cards to summarize or reinforce their readings.
