King of Northumbria (758-759)
Oswulf was the son of Eadberht and inherited the throne on his father's retirement to a monastery in 758. His reign was short and sharp, he was assassinated at Corbridge on Tyne on August 5th 759, very probably by the man who replaced him on the throne, one Aethelwald Moll.
What exactly Eadberht thought of this turn of events is not known, but he made no effort to return to power or intervene in any way, and remained safely ensconced in his monastic hideaway, (no doubt considering it all to be the will of God for the next ten years.
