A Frenchman of Italian ancestry, Galliano is recognised as the most influential contemporary composer and performer of accordion music.

His musical carreer started in 1973, when he began performing whith Claude Nogaro, but he was soon performing either solo, as a group leader (with a trio comprising Humair), or in occasional partnerships with musicians such as Chet Baker, Ron Carter, Enrico Rava, Jan Garbarek, Michel Petrucciani, Anouar Brahem, Philip Catherine, Toots Thielemans, Pierre Michelot, Didier Lockwood, Eddy Louiss and Joe Zawinul, to name a few.

His duo recording "Blow Up", with Michel Portal, won a best jazz recording award in 1997.
