Roger Rosenblatt is a
writer and essayist best known for taking complex or
esoteric subjects (everything from the meaning of
art to
racoon hunting) and explaining them with grand prose. The best example of this that is now part of Simpson's Contemporary
Quotations is his reflections on the leaders of a meeting of
American and
Russian diplomats for
Time Magazine in 1986: "A
flock of mad
ducks flown north for the winter, descending noisily on this modest, good-mannered
nation."
In addition to his prolific collection of books, essays and commentaries, he was a Professor of English at Harvard University for most of the 1980's, where he also earned his PhD. Today, he lives comfortably on Long Island, New York.
His essays have appeared in Time Magazine and the Newshour with Jim Lehrer.
