An ancient leader of the Assyrian empire. Semiramis was a female who dressed up as a male to rule her people. Pictures of her conquest were removed from temples after her death. According to historical documents, her real name was Sammu-ramat and ruled from 811 to 782 B.C. She was, in fact, married to Nimrod. It is generally assumed that she rose to power by riding on his coattails. She formed a false religion in order to instigate her rule. Eventually, she created a plot to destroy her husband Nimrod. She succeeded and took over as regent. She is credited for creating the city of Babylon. She was the subject of an opera by Rossini. She was succeeded by her son Damu.
