My first attempt at a node:
We get to the point where we're just talking past each other, really. Over the coffee mugs, he still calls me "Tiger lily," but it's too common now. He swallows the "y."
And I still tell him, "I love you," but I'm eyeing the toast crumbs and really, I want to be knocked out of my shoes like in a cartoon, totally taken by surprise.
