In a Tarot spread the significator is a card selected to represent the seeker. Generally, the selection is based on the appearance or personality of the seeker.

It is preferred to base the selection upon the personality rather than the appearance since the traditional selection guidelines are strongly racially biased. Essentially, anyone who is not Caucasian will be assigned one of four cards under the traditional guidelines whereas Caucasians will have twelve more options.
