There are many similarities between sexual arousal and fear. The “fight or flight” syndrome occurs not only when someone is genuinely afraid, but also when a person becomes sexually aroused. Adrenalin is pumped into the blood stream, breathing becomes more rapid, and pupils dilate. When a person is afraid the previous things occur to assure survival. The body goes through physical changes that allow it to perform in an upscale manner, providing for increased performance. The same occurrs during sexual arousal. Could it be that being that close to someone, baring your heart and soul as it were, is a very frightful experience; an experience that one might not be aware of consciously? Rather, the body is most likely preparing for an experience that will make use of the increased blood flow, allowing for a more pleasurable experience for one’s partner.
