Sleep talking is the common name for this. Sleep talkers rarely answer questions. They usually mumble words or phrases that make no sense to the listener. It can occur during any sleep stage.

Like most parasomnias, it is more frequent in children than adults.

There is no evidence that sleep talking is related to any physical or psychological disturbances.
