Tun Fei Mous - director of "Men Behind The Sun", the film account of Japan's notorious
Unit 731.
Although "Men Behind..." is still the best-known of his works, Mous also directed "Black Sun:
The Nanking Massacre", another account of
Japanese atrocities during
World War II.
As well as being highly
graphic in the representation of their subject matter, his films are fierce
political statements, roundly condemning the Japanese for both their involvement in these horrors, and for their lack of public regret in the years after.
Regarded either as a brave
auteur, making uncomfortable, powerful documents of a horrific time in
Eastern history, or as a
cynical filmmaker, exploiting the suffering of others for simple shock value, there is no denying that T.F. Mous is a controversial figure in Eastern cinema.
