While I was in Thailand, I went to a floating market that was utterly boring (except for the terrifying Thai boat ride there). The only redeeming virtue of the trip was the small (about 4 cm diameter) fresh coconut patties. A lady sitting in a boat takes your baht, fries the treats on her skillet, and put a pile of hot, chewy, crispy-edged, sweet coconut patty-things in a banana-leaf and gives them to you. They were exquisitely delicious, and I really, REALLY want the recipe. (They are NOT the little coconut things that are baked in muffin-tin-type pans, and have things such as corn and scallions in them. Twitch.)

AND NOW, March 28, 2001, I've found out what they are: kanom krok. Yay!
