Animals are distinguished from members of other kingdoms of terrestrial life by the following characteristics:
  • multicellular
  • depend on other organisms for food
  • cells do not have cell walls
Most animals have specialized cells, differentiated by function into organs and systems (nervous system, digestion, etc.)
Zoology is the science of animal biology. The Animal Kingdom is divided into animal phyla (singular phylum).
