One the one hand, a short-lived
girl group of the early
60s, with hits like "I'm Blue" and "Peaches and Cream". But they were actually the backup singers in the
Ike and
Tina Turner Revue; Tina sang some backup on "I'm Blue", in fact. The Ikettes were three women who wore similar outfits and similar
wigs as Mrs. Turner, but only Tina's wig was blonde, IIRC.
Famous ex-Ikettes (for there was a high turnover) include P.P. Arnold, who had a solo hit with Cat Stevens' "First Cut is the Deepest", leading indirectly to the founding of The Nice, and Bonnie Bramlett, who found fame in Delaney & Bonnie, as well as with Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen, and with Elvis Costello's "Blind Ignorant Nigger Barroom Brawl" follies.
After Ike and Tina divorced, Ike inherited the Ikettes' name and Tina inherited the wigs, singers, and costumes.
