The Tale of the Unknown Island is a philosophical tale by Nobel Laureate (1998) José Saramago.

It starts with a very determined man petitioning the king for a boat, so that he may discover an unknown island. While the king knows that all the islands in the world have already been discovered, the caller is so persuasive that the king grants him a small ship. This is a story of belief, perseverance, and love.

A small volume of only 51 pages, the Tale is a quick read that leaves lasting impressions.
