Programmers need to invent words to get ideas across in a minimum of typing and ambiguity. Take, for example, the following, from a
CPAN script putting together
perl.
Checking to see how your cpp does stuff like catenate tokens...
Oh! Smells like ANSI's been here.
We can catify or stringify, separately or together!
"Catenate" is a real word. Catify, however, is not. Another one I've seen a lot of is manify. For example:
Manifying blib/man3/Net::Telnet.3
In this instance, manify refers to the process of integrating this module's documentation with the collected man pages of the system. "Manify" may not be a real word, but it gets the idea across. Pretty much, it seems that the verbs are formed by concatenating a UNIX command with "-ify".
