(1913-1987) Wayne Woodrow "Woody" Hayes was the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes (American) football team from 1951 to 1978. During this time, he led the team to 13 Big Ten championships and three national championships. His overall record with OSU was 205 wins, 68 losses, and 10 ties.

He is considered by most OSU fans as the best football coach in the team's history.

He also had a reputation for having a bad temper. He was fired after the 1978 Gator Bowl, where he punched an opposing player.
