A long distance
phone company, veterans of
California but
new to the Midwest.
They boast
progressive environmentalism in various forms, including the following interesting
features:
Phone bills made from recycled paper
Phone cards made from recycled plastic
Free phone calls to government officials who they consider relevant to various current progressive issues
A percentage of your bill donated to progressive organizations (Amnesty International, Earth First and such things)
And if you "round up" your bill, they will donate that extra money too.
I don't know about anybody else, but until these guys landed junk mail in my mailbox, I had no idea that a phone company anywhere had interests running this way. I signed up, but admittedly for selfish reasons, as their rates were slightly cheaper than Sprint's.
Oh, and the current promotion has something to do with getting a free pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream for a year. (Read: "Free ten pounds on your ass"; a strange thing to offer people you'd like as customers!)
